Can Wife and Husband Perform Salah on One Prayer Mat?
The Query:
Can a wife perform her salah with her husband on one prayer mat (musallah)?
The Answer:
It is permissible for the wife to stand behind her husband and not side by side with her husband in Salah. In this manner it is permissible for her to perform her Salah. On the contrary, if the wife stands side by side to join the jama'at of her husband without any space for another person to stand, then her Salah will not be valid. If the husband had made the niyyah (intention) of jama'at with his wife while she is standing side by side with him, then the Salah of both of them will not be valid.
