Fighting For Islam - Hadith 8

عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه و سلم قَالَ أُمِرْتُ أَنْ أُقَاتِلَ النَّاسَ حَتَّى يَشْهَدُوا أَنْ لَا إلَهَ إلَّا اللَّهُ وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ، وَيُقِيمُوا الصَّلَاةَ، وَيُؤْتُوا الزَّكَاةَ؛ فَإِذَا فَعَلُوا ذَلِكَ عَصَمُوا مِنِّي دِمَاءَهُمْ وَأَمْوَالَهُمْ إلَّا بِحَقِّ الْإِسْلَامِ، وَحِسَابُهُمْ عَلَى اللَّهِ تَعَالَى رَوَاهُ الْبُخَارِيُّ ،وَمُسْلِمٌ

Narrated by Ibn Úmar radiyAllāhu Anhu that RasūlAllāh ﷺ said:

I was ordered to confront people until they bear witness that there is no God except Allāh and that Muĥammad is the Messenger of Allāh, and they establish prayer, and pay zakāt. If they do so, their blood and property shall be given my protection,[1] except for the right of Islām – and their account will be with Allāh, the Most Exalted.

[1] Literally, “would be protected from me”. However, the protection would also be granted by him, hence the translation.
